Official overview

It's 1976... a different '76. Stretched out before you are thousands of miles of desert - the American Southwest. The massive engine roars as you slam down the throttle. It's time to get funked up... You are Groove Champion, auto-vigilante. Your agenda: payback for your dead sister. Your weapon: A 425-horsepower '72 Picard Piranha with two 50-caliber machine guns on the roof and a flamethrower on the side. You're one mean dude in an even meaner ride. They've messed with the wrong Champion.

Known issues

Users in the official forums have noted that under a wide variety of environments, Interstate '76 fails to work correctly.

It is not recommended to play this game out-of-the-box as you will most likely suffer graphical problems and gameplay issues which have been reported to make the game impossible to complete. While the GOG community have created fixes to prevent the bugs, the game will still not necessarily work perfectly on modern systems.

Workaround Thread

A forum thread has been compiled detailing a list of possible fixes and workarounds.

nGlide is a reimplementation of the 3dfx API. It manifests as a simple replacement dll and configuration program. To install nGlide, visit the official website and download the latest version (as of this writing it is 0.97). Run the installation program and then navigate to your Interstate '76 installation directory. Rename, move or delete the files glide.dll and glide2x.dll. Now launch the glide version of Interstate '76 (a shortcut will be placed in your Start Menu for this). If nGlide is working, you will see the 3dfx logo appear and the game will start.

Take note that despite nGlide's installation, the cutscene and main menu will be rendered in funkyvision and display a lot of pink and green. The game, however, should look exactly like it was meant to.

Interstate '76 Launcher

A custom Interstate '76 launcher has been created which includes a glide wrapper (allows the game to be run at high resolutions) as well as a CPU Throttler (slows down the CPU in order to lower the framerate of the game thus fixing many of its issues). It will also, on starting the game from the launcher, close explorer.exe (also solving many issues of the game) and upon Interstate 76's closure will start a new Explorer process.
