The original 1996 version of the first Broken Sword game. Released as an extra with the already released Director's Cut. Much the same as the Director's Cut, but does not include the additional Nico sections or enhanced audio or artwork. The game is packaged with ScummVM.
Patches and modifications
The game will crash on the savegame screen if you install it to a directory with spaces in it (such as the default directory). To fix this, open sword1.ini in the installation directory in Notepad and then add quotes around the savepath parameter. So if my savepath was I:\Games\GOG.com\Broken Sword - The Shadow of the Templars, I would need to change the savepath line to:
savepath="I:\Games\GOG.com\Broken Sword - The Shadow of the Templars"
As the game runs with ScummVM, native compatibility can be achieved on most Linux distributions. ScummVM can be found in the package repositories of many distributions such as Ubuntu and Arch.
The game requires all the following datafiles to work (taken from the ScummVM wiki:
- MUSIC folder
- SMACKSHI folder
- SPEECH folder
