Modifications

Highly recommended

  • Windows Frotz is a Z-machine interpreter which can play numerous Infocom games, including the Zork series. Its customizability makes it a more optimal way of playing than through GOG's DOSBox setup.
  • Gargoyle shines as an aesthetic platform for playing the Zork games. Though not as customizable as Frotz, it makes the experience much better by making the typography high quality.

Known issues

If the pure text games (Zork 1-3, Planetfall) are played via the launcher (and not starting from a DOS prompt or using any of the interpreter programs above), the games will quit and close when they are beaten, which will prevent the player from reading the ending.
